FAQ

I believe that informed care leads to better outcomes. Below you’ll find answers to some of the most common questions about my holistic psychiatric services, telehealth appointments, insurance coverage, and what to expect during your care. If you don’t see your question here, feel free to contact me directly.

What is holistic or integrative psychiatry?

Holistic psychiatry addresses the connection between mental and physical health—considering factors like sleep, nutrition, lab testing, therapy, and medication—rather than just prescribing medication

Where is Jena Simon, NP licensed to practice?

She offers telehealth consultations for adults and is licensed in Massachusetts, Maryland, New York, and Washington State

Do you accept insurance?

Yes—major commercial insurances are accepted for medical services and medication management. You can verify coverage via Headway.

What services are offered?

Services include psychiatric evaluations, medication management, therapy, lab testing, and functional assessments—all delivered through an integrative, holistic lens.

How does the intake process work?

Your first appointment is a thorough assessment—typically 60 minutes—reviewing mental and physical health history to build a personalized care plan.

What kinds of lab tests or functional assessments are offered?

I offer Comprehensive Health Testing for Mental Health, Standard Lab Tests, Pharmacogenomic (PGx) Testing and Functional Lab Assessments

What is included in your comprehensive health testing for mental health?

To better understand the factors affecting mental health, I offer a combination of standard lab tests, pharmacogenomic testing, and functional lab assessments. These tests help identify issues such as vitamin deficiencies, hormone imbalances, or inflammation that may contribute to mental health concerns. Not all tests are covered by insurance.

What is included in your Standard Lab Tests?

Standard lab tests check key aspects of your health, such as blood cell counts, liver and kidney function, electrolytes, vitamin levels, and thyroid hormone levels. These tests can uncover underlying medical issues that might impact mental health.

What is included in your Pharmacogenomic (PGx) Testing?

Pharmacogenomic testing analyzes your genetic makeup to predict how you may respond to certain medications. This information can help guide more personalized and effective medication choices, reducing the risk of side effects or ineffective treatment.

What is included in your Functional Lab Assessments?

Functional lab assessments go beyond routine testing to evaluate areas like digestive health, hormone balance, and nutrient levels. These tests can help identify hidden imbalances or deficiencies that may influence mood, energy, and overall mental well-being.

What are the Benefits of Comprehensive Testing?

The benefits of comprehensive testing include improved identification and treatment of underlying health issues affecting mental health. This means we can create personalized treatment plans based on your unique biology, which often leads to better outcomes and quality of life. Additionally, it can reduce the risk of side effects and improve medication effectiveness. By using a comprehensive approach to lab testing, we can develop a more targeted, effective plan to support your mental health and overall wellness.

What conditions do you treat?

Commonly treated conditions include anxiety, depression, ADHD, bipolar disorder, PTSD, chronic illness, grief, sleep issues, and stress, with a holistic approach.

Is telehealth available?

Yes—services are offered entirely online for eligible clients in Massachusetts, Maryland, New York, and Washington State.

How can I schedule an appointment?

You can book via ZocDoc or by sending a messaage.

What are Dr. Simon’s fees if she doesn’t take my insurance?

You can find Dr. Simon’s current fees here. If Dr. Simon is not in-network with your insurance, she can give you a “super-bill”—a special receipt you can submit to your insurance company if you have out-of-network benefits. This may help you get reimbursed for part of the cost. If you have questions about payment or insurance, please feel free to ask!

What is EMDR?

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) therapy is a type of psychotherapy I use to help clients process and heal from traumatic or distressing experiences. During our sessions, I guide you through eye movements or other forms of bilateral stimulation while you recall difficult memories. This technique can reduce the emotional impact of those memories and is commonly used to treat PTSD, anxiety, and related conditions.
